Our Essential Beliefs

NOTE: There are some doctrines on which two Christians may agree to disagree, even though they are in the same home church and part of the same leadership team. These are beliefs that are not essential for salvation or church leadership. We refer to these beliefs as ‘open handed’ issue. We believe in being united as the family of God and in obeying His command to love one another while we seek to be doctrinally pure. The following are the non-debatable ‘closed handed’ beliefs of our church.

about the Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s Holy Word to us. The Old and New Testaments were written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the final authority for faith and life. And is inerrant in the original writings. (2 Timothy 3:16;  2 Peter 1:20,21;  2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6;  Proverbs 30:5)

about the Godhead (Trinity)

We believe in one triune God, that has existed eternally in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are all co-equal in power and glory and are co-eternal in being and nature. (Genesis 1:1; 3:22; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalms 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2.)

about Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, and He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross.  He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13)

about the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ.  He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.  He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.  He gives every believer at least one spiritual gift when they are saved.  As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18)

about Human Beings

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but through the sin of Adam, the human race fell and inherited a sinful nature and became separated from God. Because of that, man is totally depraved and cannot fix or save himself from that lost condition. (Genesis 1:26, 27; Romans 3:22-23; 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12.)

about Salvation

We believe that Salvation is God’s free gift to us, by His grace we can receive salvation when we personally have faith in Jesus Christ who’s blood was shed on the cross at Calvary so that our sins may be forgiven. (John 1:12, 14:6; Romans 5:1, 6:23; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:18-19.)

about Eternal Security

We believe that once a person is saved that they are secure in Jesus forever by the power of God. (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38,39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:5) We believe that this assurance believers can have of their salvation is a privilege given to us by the bible, which also clearly forbids the use of this assurance as permission to walk in sin. (Romans 13:13, 14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15)
